## Executive Summary
Destiny 2’s final update sparks a player exodus—protests, server crashes, and Bungie’s Marathon struggles collide

## Intelligence Brief
A coordinated surge of 160,000+ players flooded *Destiny 2* servers in response to Bungie’s upcoming *Monument of Triumph* update, widely framed as the game’s endgame. Coverage highlights the event as both a farewell celebration and a protest against Bungie’s decision to conclude *This Week in Destiny* (TWIDs), a long-running community staple. Players overwhelmed servers to express dissatisfaction, with outlets like *Kotaku* and *levelup.com* framing it as a grassroots backlash against perceived neglect of the franchise.

Coverage emphasizes the emotional weight of the update, with *Forbes* and *PC Gamer* describing it as a ‘beautiful, tragic ending.’ Bungie’s official *This Week in Destiny* post acknowledged the shift but did not address player concerns directly. Meanwhile, *Eurogamer* notes the surge coincides with declining interest in Bungie’s *Marathon* reboot, suggesting the *Destiny 2* resurgence may not translate to broader franchise health. Watch for Bungie’s response to the server protests and whether the *Destiny 2* player base will transition to *Marathon* or other titles.

The update’s release date and potential post-launch content (or lack thereof) will determine if this becomes a defining moment for fan retention or a turning point for Bungie’s future projects.
