> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-06-11 17:26 UTC · Category: Science

## Executive Summary
Researchers have identified a massive, fan-shaped geological structure situated beneath the East Antarctic Ice Sheet.

## Intelligence Brief
Scientists have detected a large, fan-shaped basin province located deep under the ice in East Antarctica. The feature is characterized as a subglacial structure formed through a process of rotational extension.

Coverage from ScienceAlert, IFLScience, Nature, Yahoo, and Live Science highlights the physical dimensions and the geological classification of the discovery. Reports emphasize the structural shape and its location within the East Antarctic region.

Future updates will likely clarify the specific geological implications of the rotational extension process mentioned in initial findings. Coverage does not yet specify the full extent of the formation or its impact on ice sheet stability.
