# Collapsing stars could spawn mini-universes, offering new path to gravastars

> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-06-12 09:07 UTC · Category: Science

## Executive Summary
New theoretical physics models suggest that collapsing stars may form internal mini-universes, potentially resulting in gravastars instead of black holes.

## Intelligence Brief
Recent scientific discussions propose that dying stars could undergo a process where a mini-universe forms within their core. This phenomenon is being explored as a mechanism that could prevent the formation of black holes. The theory suggests that internal dark energy might counteract the gravitational pressure typically associated with stellar collapse.

Coverage from Phys.org, Quantum Zeitgeist, and Universe Space Tech emphasizes that this process could lead to the creation of gravastars. Additional reports from BBC Sky at Night Magazine and ScienceBlog.com note that these findings may necessitate the development of new physics to fully explain the transition from stellar collapse to gravastar formation. Future developments remain dependent on further theoretical refinement.

Current coverage does not yet specify when observational data might be available to test these hypotheses or how these mini-universes would interact with external spacetime.
