> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-06-12 15:07 UTC · Category: Technology

## Executive Summary
The director of the Final Fantasy VII trilogy identifies game streaming as a significant challenge for the future of the RPG genre.

## Intelligence Brief
The remarks suggest that the accessibility of watching others play games may reduce the motivation for audiences to experience titles personally. Coverage from outlets including GameSpot, IGN, Kotaku, Nintendo Everything, AUTOMATON, and GoNintendo highlights that the director views this trend as a particular threat to games that lack substantial player agency.

Reports emphasize that the director believes players are increasingly satisfied with simply viewing content rather than participating in the interactive elements of the genre. Future developments will depend on whether game developers alter design philosophies to prioritize player choice as a countermeasure to streaming.

Coverage does not yet specify if the director has proposed formal industry changes or if other developers have responded to these concerns.
