## Executive Summary
Global hunger surges as Iran war and El Niño disrupt food systems, fertilizer shortages worsen crisis

## Intelligence Brief
The World Food Programme (WFP) reports that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz—linked to escalating tensions in the Iran war—has intensified food insecurity, pushing millions deeper into hunger. Major outlets including *The Washington Post*, *The Telegraph*, and *Democracy Now!* emphasize the dual threat of geopolitical instability and climate factors like El Niño, which could exacerbate food shortages for over 100 million people.

The UN WFP frames the situation as a direct consequence of the Middle East conflict, with the poorest households bearing the brunt of rising prices and supply chain breakdowns. Watch for updates on fertilizer market dynamics, potential grain export bans, and whether the Strait of Hormuz reopens.

Coverage may shift to long-term agricultural impacts if disruptions persist, particularly in regions reliant on Middle Eastern food exports.
