## Executive Summary
CDC data reveals rising alcohol use during pregnancy, defying public health warnings.

## Intelligence Brief
New CDC findings indicate an increase in alcohol consumption among pregnant women in the U.S., particularly since 2020. Coverage highlights a shift in behavior despite long-standing medical advice against drinking during pregnancy. The trend is framed as alarming, with experts expressing concern over potential long-term health risks for both mothers and infants.

Outlets including *MedPage Today*, *statnews.com*, and *Fast Company* are reporting on the CDC’s preliminary data, framing it as a public health concern. *News24* connects the trend to broader global issues, citing South Africa’s fetal alcohol syndrome crisis as a cautionary example. Gizmodo emphasizes the apparent willingness of Americans to accept the risk, though specifics on prevalence or regional variations remain unstated. Watch for follow-up reports on potential causes—such as stress, misinformation, or changing social norms—once the CDC releases full data.

Public health responses, including updated guidelines or awareness campaigns, may emerge as stakeholders react to the findings. Coverage may also explore whether this trend extends to other substances or behaviors traditionally discouraged during pregnancy.
