The brief

The Chicago Cubs have reached an agreement with the New York Mets to acquire left-handed pitcher David Peterson. In exchange for Peterson, the Mets are receiving infielder prospect Mathis.

Coverage from FOX Sports, ESPN, and MLB.com highlights the move as a reinforcement for the Cubs' pitching rotation, which has been impacted by injuries. Reports from the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times note the addition of the left-hander to the Cubs' roster, while SNY emphasizes that the Mets do not view this trade as the beginning of a broader summer sell-off.

Future developments will depend on how Peterson integrates into the Cubs' pitching staff and the subsequent impact of the acquisition on team performance. It remains to be seen how the move affects the Mets' roster strategy following their recent game against Chicago.
