## Executive Summary
A parasite causing explosive diarrhea has sickened 170 people in Michigan and led to hospitalizations across several states.

## Intelligence Brief
A parasite causing explosive diarrhea is the center of a growing public health concern affecting multiple states. According to reports from CNN, a specific parasite capable of contaminating raw produce is causing widespread misery across several jurisdictions. Major media outlets are tracking the rapid spread of the illness. Forbes reports that the so-called poop parasite has caused hundreds of cases of explosive diarrhea.

Meanwhile, The Detroit News focuses on the regional surge, noting that the number of parasite infection cases is exploding specifically in Ohio. These reports collectively highlight a multi-state health event where the primary symptoms are severe gastrointestinal distress, linked by these sources to the consumption of contaminated raw produce items. Context provided by the coverage suggests that the vulnerability of the food supply chain, particularly raw produce, is a key factor in the dissemination of the parasite. Because raw produce does not undergo cooking processes that would typically kill such parasites, contaminated crops can lead to the quick spread of illness across state lines as these products are distributed to various markets and consumers.

Future developments will likely center on identifying the specific raw produce items responsible for the contamination to prevent further infections. Coverage does not yet specify the exact species of the parasite or the specific types of produce involved, so further health alerts or recalls from official agencies would be the expected next step in managing the outbreak.
