> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-07-09 17:07 UTC · Category: Business

## Executive Summary
Expansion of AI data centers across Texas and Ohio faces scrutiny over air quality, regulatory permit loopholes, and significant greenhouse gas emissions.

## Intelligence Brief
Data centers are proliferating across Texas and Ohio, driven by the energy demands of artificial intelligence. Coverage indicates that developers are increasingly installing natural gas plants and diesel generators on-site to power these facilities, raising concerns regarding air quality and environmental impact.

Reporting from WIRED, The Texas Tribune, and KSAT highlights that some projects are utilizing permit loopholes to operate near residential areas. While RBN Energy notes that some hyperscalers are implementing measures to mitigate the impacts of natural gas usage, outlets including Futurism and Cleveland.com emphasize the severity of emissions, with some sites projected to produce more greenhouse gases than entire nations.

The current coverage does not yet specify the timeline for the completion of these facilities or the specific regulatory outcomes for pending approval requests. Observers are monitoring whether shifting energy policies and public opposition will alter the deployment of power infrastructure for AI hubs.
