## Intelligence Brief
Pope Leo XIV has hosted a meal for vulnerable guests at Castel Gandolfo, an event identified as the Borgo Laudato si' lunch. During this gathering, the Pope explicitly called on society to eliminate the causes of poverty and injustice. According to reporting from EWTN News, the event served as a platform for the Pontiff to emphasize the necessity of addressing the root drivers of social inequality rather than merely treating the symptoms. The Pope stated that he arrived at the lunch with a hunger for genuine charity, noting that he came without a formal speech but with this specific desire to engage with the poor. Coverage from Vatican News and Aleteia highlights the spiritual and humanitarian dimensions of the event.

Vatican News reports that Pope Leo XIV affirmed that God never ceases to believe in the people. Aleteia notes the Pope's specific framing of the event, where he described his presence as being driven by a hunger for charity. Other outlets, including OSV News and the National Catholic Reporter, focused on the physical setting of the meal at Castel Gandolfo and the nature of the guests as vulnerable individuals. These reports collectively emphasize the Pope's intent to align his actions with his stated goals of social justice. This event occurs as Pope Leo XIV begins his summer break, a period sharonherald.com describes as following a decisive flexing of muscle on both the international and church stages.

The timing of the meal coincides with a transition into his vacation, during which CatholicPhilly reports that the Pope is also scheduled to speak to Americans. Furthermore, Aleteia reports that the Pope has urged others to use their own vacation time for praying with Scripture, suggesting a broader theme of spiritual reflection accompanying his summer schedule and his public engagements with the marginalized. Looking ahead, observers are monitoring the Pope's activities as he begins his summer vacation and prepares to address Americans, as noted by CatholicPhilly. The discourse surrounding the Borgo Laudato si' lunch is expected to sustain interest in the Pope's calls for the elimination of injustice. Future coverage will likely focus on the specific messages delivered to the American audience and whether the call for genuine charity leads to further policy initiatives or church directives regarding the systemic causes of poverty as mentioned in the EWTN News report.
