The brief
Coverage notes that Townsend was previously kicked off his college team. Yahoo Sports highlighted the disciplinary note, while the Chicago Sun‑Times focused on the pick itself.
Bleacher Nation placed the selection within a broader draft review, mentioning the Cubs’ patchwork pitching approach and the readiness of veteran Adam Taillon. Future reports are likely to follow Townsend’s progress in the Cubs organization, assess how his background influences his development, and track the impact of Taillon’s status on Chicago’s pitching plans.
