## Executive Summary
The announcement of a sunset date for Mario Kart Tour has triggered reactions from the gaming community and an unusual critique from Garfield.

## Intelligence Brief
Nintendo has announced the upcoming shutdown of its mobile title Mario Kart Tour. According to reports from WKRN News 2 and Massively Overpowered, the game is set to be sunsetted, marking the end of its operational life as an online service. This move indicates that Nintendo is transitioning away from the mobile experience for this specific iteration of the Mario Kart franchise. The shutdown is part of a broader trend of online games being deactivated, as Massively Overpowered also notes that Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is among the latest online games due to sunset. Coverage from multiple outlets highlights the significance of this decision.

Polygon.com emphasizes the gravity of the situation, suggesting that when a company like Nintendo begins killing its games, it serves as a sign that industry conditions are poor. Meanwhile, GameSpot focuses on a specific and unconventional reaction to the news, reporting that Garfield has crapped on Mario in response to the upcoming Mario Kart game shutdown. This intersection of industry news and character-driven commentary reflects the varied ways the public and media are processing the loss of these digital titles. To understand the context of this trend, it is necessary to recognize that sunsetting is the process of permanently shutting down the servers of an online game, making it unplayable. The inclusion of both Mario Kart Tour and Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis in the list of games being shut down, as mentioned by Massively Overpowered, shows that this is not an isolated incident affecting only one developer.

The reaction from Polygon suggests a wider concern regarding the permanence and longevity of digital games in the current market, where software can be removed regardless of its popularity. Looking forward, the specific timeline for the shutdown of Mario Kart Tour remains a primary point of interest for players. While the coverage from WKRN News 2 and Massively Overpowered confirms the intent to shut down the mobile game, users will likely be monitoring for further details regarding the exact date the servers go offline. Additionally, the industry will be watching to see if other mobile titles from Nintendo or Square Enix follow the path of Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. The fallout from the Garfield critique reported by GameSpot may also lead to further viral reactions as the shutdown date approaches.
