> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-07-12 00:07 UTC · Category: World

## Executive Summary
Tensions escalate in the Strait of Hormuz as the United States and Iran exchange military strikes following a formal resumption of conflict.

## Intelligence Brief
The United States has engaged in military strikes against Iran, including the use of sea drones against an Iranian port. These actions follow the re-establishment of a U.S. naval blockade around the Strait of Hormuz. In response, Iran has conducted strikes against a cargo ship in the region and expanded its operations against other Gulf states.

Coverage from outlets including Reuters, Politico, and The Guardian highlights a rapid escalation in regional hostilities. Reporting from Military Times and Al Jazeera notes that these events mark the first combat use of U.S. sea drones. Tehran has publicly characterized the current exchange as rendering diplomacy futile.

President Trump has issued a formal notice to Congress regarding the resumption of conflict and the declaration of a new war against Iran. Future developments depend on the progression of the naval blockade and the ongoing exchange of fire between the two nations. Coverage does not yet specify the long-term strategic objectives of either party.
