## Executive Summary
The United States has launched new military strikes against Iran following the IRGC's declaration that the Strait of Hormuz is closed.

## Intelligence Brief
The United States has initiated a series of new military strikes against Iran after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared the Strait of Hormuz closed. According to coverage from AP News, USA Today, and DW.com, these actions follow Iranian attacks on shipping vessels. Specific targets included an Iranian submarine and a port facility, as reported by USNI News. In a notable tactical shift, The Hill and the Wall Street Journal report that the U.S. military deployed seaborne drones for the first time to attack an Iranian port. These escalations follow reports that a container ship near Oman was struck, leading the crew to abandon the vessel due to an onboard fire, as detailed by the UKMTO and Reuters. Multiple news outlets are tracking the rapidly evolving conflict. AP News and MS NOW highlight that President Trump has ordered a new blockade in the Strait of Hormuz and has sent a war powers notice to Congress regarding the renewed strikes.

France 24 and AP News report that the U.S. response was triggered by Iranian attacks on ships. Meanwhile, the Times of Israel notes that the IRGC claimed to have hit a second vessel in the strait and targeted military bases located in Qatar, Jordan, and Kuwait. These reports emphasize a widening regional conflict involving multiple Gulf Arab states and the deployment of lethal drone technology. Context for the crisis centers on the strategic value of the Strait of Hormuz. The Times of Israel reports that an adviser to Khamenei described the strait as being more important than dozens of atomic bombs. This high-stakes environment was exacerbated when Iran declared the waterway closed after an unauthorized vessel was hit, according to Yahoo News Canada. However, a maritime group cited by Fortune stated that the Hormuz route remained open despite the official declaration from Iran.

This discrepancy between official Iranian claims and maritime reality underscores the volatility of the region's shipping lanes. Looking forward, the situation remains fluid as the U.S. maintains its blockade and military pressure. Based on reported facts, observers will be watching for the congressional response to the war powers notice sent by President Trump. There is also a focus on the operational effectiveness of the newly deployed sea drones in attacking Iranian infrastructure. Furthermore, coverage from the Times of Israel indicates that the IRGC continues to target regional bases, suggesting that further developments in Qatar, Jordan, and Kuwait may occur as the U.S. and Iran continue their exchange of strikes.
