## Executive Summary
Boston Celtics rookies drive a victory over the Charlotte Hornets in the Vegas Summer League, sparking discussions on the team's athletic growth.

## Intelligence Brief
The Boston Celtics defeated the Charlotte Hornets with a final score of 87-75 during their second Vegas Summer League game on July 12, 2026. According to reports from ESPN, NBA.com, and CelticsBlog, the Celtics took control of the game late in the contest to secure the win. This victory brings the Celtics to a 1-0 record in the tournament, while the Hornets fell to a 1-1 record. Yahoo Sports noted that this result marked the second consecutive summer league matchup loss for the Charlotte Hornets. The game served as a primary showcase for the team's new incoming talent and their ability to execute in a competitive environment. Coverage from multiple outlets emphasizes the performance of the team's rookie class.

The Boston Globe reports that the organization has specifically encouraged rookie Dillon Mitchell to be aggressive and fire away from the 3-point range. NBA.com further detailed that Mitchell took a specific message from teammate Derrick White to heart during the performance. NBC Sports Boston and the Boston Herald focused on the athletic profile of the new players, with the Herald describing a rookie as super athletic and NBC Sports Boston analyzing how Cenac Jr. and Mitchell can provide the Celtics with a necessary injection of athleticism into their roster. This trend is significant because it highlights the specific developmental goals the Celtics have for their draft picks. Yahoo Sports reports that a Celtics draft pick flashed intriguing two-way upside during the game, suggesting that the team is valuing players who can contribute on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. MassLive provided four key takeaways from the victory, focusing on how the rookies are adapting to the professional pace of play.

The emphasis on athleticism and three-point shooting indicates a strategic effort by the coaching staff to diversify the team's physical and tactical capabilities heading into the next phase of the season. Moving forward, observers will monitor the continued integration of Dillon Mitchell and Cenac Jr. into the rotation. Based on the reporting from Sports Illustrated, the performance of these rookies has led to a stock-up evaluation for the team's recent acquisitions. Future updates will likely center on whether the two-way upside mentioned by Yahoo Sports translates into consistent production in subsequent Summer League games. The team's ability to maintain this momentum after their 87-75 win over the Hornets will be a primary focal point for Boston-based media outlets including the Boston Herald and MassLive as they track the development of the 2026 rookie class.
