## Executive Summary
Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at age 38 shortly after his removal from the 2026 World Cup due to sexual assault allegations.

## Intelligence Brief
Rob Dieperink, a Dutch soccer referee, has died at the age of 38. His death occurs several weeks after he was removed from the 2026 World Cup. According to reports from The New York Times, The Independent, and the BBC, Dieperink had been sidelined from the tournament following his arrest. The circumstances surrounding his removal involved allegations of sexual assault, with The Sun specifying that the arrest concerned the alleged sex assault of a teenager in the United Kingdom. Coverage of the event is widespread across international outlets.

Yahoo News Singapore and People.com both highlight that the official was dropped from the FIFA World Cup after his arrest. The New York Post and MARCA also report on Dieperink's passing, focusing on the timeline between his termination from the tournament and his death. The reports emphasize the intersection of a high-profile sporting event and a serious criminal investigation, noting the abrupt end to the referee's professional involvement in the World Cup. Context provided by the Daily Star indicates that the legal proceedings had a specific trajectory, noting that the sex charges against an underage boy were dropped. This detail provides a critical layer to the timeline, as it suggests that the legal status of the case had shifted before the referee's death occurred.

The situation illustrates the immediate professional consequences faced by World Cup officials when facing criminal charges, as Dieperink was axed from the competition shortly after the initial arrest took place. Looking forward, the available coverage does not specify the cause of death or provide further details on the final legal resolution. Observers will likely look for statements from FIFA or the Dutch footballing authorities regarding the official's career and the internal processes used to sideline him. Because the Daily Star mentioned that charges were dropped, future reporting may focus on the specifics of those legal filings and whether any further investigations into the alleged UK incident remain active.
