## Executive Summary
Florida State is reportedly hiring former Texas and FAU coach Tom Herman to its football support staff.

## Intelligence Brief
Recent reporting indicates that Florida State University is bringing in Tom Herman, a former coach at Texas and Florida Atlantic University, to join its football program. According to coverage from outlets including The New York Times, CBS Sports, ESPN, 247Sports, and Tomahawk Nation, Herman is slated to take on a role ahead of the upcoming 2026 football season. Specifically, ESPN reports that Herman will serve as an assistant to head coach Mike Norvell, while other publications describe the position as a support staff role. The move brings an experienced former head coach into the fold at Florida State as the program prepares for the upcoming competitive schedule. The widespread coverage emphasizes the sudden emergence of the news through multiple sports media channels simultaneously.

Publications such as 247Sports and Tomahawk Nation framed the development as a significant addition to the program's operational framework. ESPN cited unnamed sources in breaking the precise nature of Herman's title as an assistant to Mike Norvell, while The New York Times and CBS Sports highlighted his extensive background leading major collegiate programs like Texas and Florida Atlantic. The collective reporting underscores how the arrival of a coach with Herman's résumé generates immediate interest across the national college football landscape. This development occurs against the backdrop of Herman's previous high-profile coaching stints at the collegiate level, which provide the context for why his movement into a support staff position draws substantial attention. Having previously held top leadership roles at prominent programs, his transition into an assistant or support capacity at Florida State represents a notable shift in responsibilities.

Coverage does not yet specify the full extent of his day-to-day duties within Mike Norvell's staff, nor does it detail the exact contractual terms of the agreement, leaving those operational specifics unconfirmed by the current reporting. Looking ahead, observers and fans will be watching for official announcements from Florida State University to confirm the exact title, responsibilities, and start date for Tom Herman. Because current reports rely heavily on unnamed sources and preliminary announcements ahead of the 2026 season, subsequent coverage will likely focus on how Herman integrates into the existing coaching hierarchy under Mike Norvell. Media outlets have not yet detailed whether additional staff changes will accompany this addition, meaning future updates will be necessary to understand the full scope of the program's staffing adjustments.
