## Intelligence Brief
The National Hockey League has officially released the home-opener schedule for the 2026-27 season, which is set to begin on Tuesday, September 29. According to reports from NHL.com and ESPN, the opening night will feature a tripleheader of games, including a matchup between the champion Carolina Hurricanes and the Florida Panthers, as well as a contest between Toronto and Montreal. The New York Rangers have also learned their first opponent of the year, as they are scheduled to open the season against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden. This specific game is highlighted as a matchup between two Original Six franchises. Coverage from various outlets emphasizes the scale and broadcast of the new season. ESPN Press Room notes that the network will host the exclusive Opening Night tripleheader.

Meanwhile, Yahoo Sports has provided detailed information regarding how fans can watch the schedule release, including the specific channels and live stream options for the reveal show. These outlets are collectively documenting the specific matchups that will define the start of the league's calendar. Contextual reports from 9News and The Denver Post indicate a significant change in the league's structure, as the NHL is expanding the season to 84 games starting in 2026-27. The Denver Post specifically notes that the Colorado Avalanche will begin this expanded campaign against the Los Angeles Kings. Additionally, the Raleigh News & Observer and Yahoo Sports report that the Carolina Hurricanes have set the date for their Stanley Cup banner celebration during their opener against the Panthers.

The New York Times has raised questions regarding the scheduling, specifically asking why the season is now starting in late September.
