## Executive Summary
Uganda has begun a critical 42-day countdown to be declared free of Ebola after discharging its final patient.

## Intelligence Brief
Uganda has officially entered a 42-day countdown period to determine if the nation can be declared free of the Ebola virus. The countdown represents a mandatory observation window required before the official end of the outbreak can be formally announced. According to coverage from Reuters and BBC, the discharge of this last patient marks the beginning of the transition toward regaining Ebola-free status for the country. Significant media attention has been given to the logistical and political implications of this health milestone. Reporting from ndtv.com and Africanews highlights the discharge of the final patient as the catalyst for the countdown.

Meanwhile, The Guardian emphasizes that Ugandan authorities are now calling for the lifting of travel restrictions that had been imposed during the crisis. The breadth of the coverage, spanning from Outbreak News Today to Africa24 TV and Devdiscourse, underscores the international interest in Uganda's ability to contain the virus and return to normal operational stability. Contextualizing the event, the situation in Uganda is contrasted by broader regional health trends. According to a report from CIDRAP, while Uganda is moving toward the end of its crisis, there is a simultaneous surge of Ebola cases occurring in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This regional disparity highlights the precarious nature of virus containment in Central and East Africa, where one nation may reach a point of recovery while a neighboring state faces an increasing outbreak of the same pathogen.

Future developments will depend on the outcome of the 42-day window. Observers are monitoring whether any new cases emerge during this period, as the official declaration of being virus-free depends entirely on the absence of new infections. Additionally, the response from international bodies regarding Uganda's request to lift travel restrictions will be a key indicator of global confidence in the country's health security measures as the countdown progresses toward its conclusion.
