# Here’s when to watch summer meteor showers

> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-07-16 19:07 UTC · Category: Science

## Executive Summary
Summer skywatchers are tracking two major meteor showers, with the Perseids expected to offer optimal viewing conditions in August.

## Intelligence Brief
The Perseid meteor shower has officially begun, leading into an anticipated peak on August 12 and 13. While the Southern Delta Aquariids are also arriving, their visibility is expected to be reduced by a nearly full moon around their July 30 peak. Coverage notes that the Perseids may produce up to 100 shooting stars per hour.

Reporting from outlets including The Weather Network, BBC, Space Daily, and Scientific American emphasizes that the Perseid peak coincides with favorable lunar conditions, described as a new moon. Local coverage from various regions, including the Detroit Free Press and KTLA, highlights organized public viewing events and photography tips for those observing the phenomenon. Future updates will focus on specific regional weather patterns that may impact visibility during the August peak.

Coverage does not yet specify the exact atmospheric conditions for all locations on the peak dates, though state parks and botanical gardens, such as the one at Uniwersytet Łódzki, have begun scheduling events for observation.
