# Fantasy football: Why you should wait to draft a QB ... and then take two of them

## Executive Summary
Fantasy football strategists are debating a shift in quarterback drafting, specifically waiting on the position to potentially secure two players.

## Intelligence Brief
Current trends in fantasy football draft preparation for the 2026 season highlight a strategic pivot regarding the quarterback position. According to coverage from ESPN, there is a growing argument for managers to wait longer before drafting their first quarterback and subsequently selecting two players at the position. This approach suggests a departure from traditional early-round investments in a single star signal-caller. Other resources, such as the 2026 Fantasy Football Draft Kit from FantraxHQ, are providing updated frameworks as managers begin to organize their rosters for the upcoming year. Multiple outlets are focusing on how league size and draft formats alter these strategies. ESPN has specifically detailed how 12-team mock drafts can shift a manager's philosophy toward both quarterbacks and tight ends.

Meanwhile, PFF is providing round-by-round perfect draft strategies tailored for 10-team leagues, specifically for those picking in the 4-7 slot. RotoWire is advising managers on what specific metrics to track during mock drafts and how to apply those insights to their final boards. The Fantasy Footballers Podcast has also released a recap of a 10-team mock draft to illustrate these dynamics in action. Contextual data for the 2026 season includes specific player targets and financial planning. Matthew Berry's Fantasy Life asserts that for a manager with the 1.01 pick, Jahmyr Gibbs should be the selection regardless of other options. In addition to standard snake drafts, Fantasy Points has released a 2026 Auction and Salary Cap Draft Plan to help managers navigate different budget-based formats.

These varied strategies reflect a broader effort to optimize roster construction by identifying which position groups to prioritize and which to ignore, a topic explored by FTN (For the Numbers) in their analysis of position groups to cross off on draft day. Looking forward, the focus remains on the execution of these philosophies during actual draft events. Managers will be monitoring mock draft trends via RotoWire and applying the round-by-round guides from PFF to see if the 'wait and take two' quarterback strategy yields better results than early investment. The effectiveness of prioritizing Jahmyr Gibbs at the first overall pick will also be a key point of observation. As the season approaches, the integration of salary cap planning from Fantasy Points and the draft kits from FantraxHQ will likely determine how teams balance their spending across the quarterback and tight end positions.
