## Executive Summary
Multnomah County politicians are demanding a 'reset' on a proposed public investment for the renovation of the Moda Center.

## Intelligence Brief
A significant challenge has emerged regarding the funding for Moda Center renovations, as Multnomah County politicians call for a reset of the current deal. According to reports from KATU, the city has shared a copy of draft terms sent to the Blazers that detail a public investment of $573 million in the venue. However, two county commissioners have characterized the proposed funding as a blank check, leading to a push for a pause on the county's specific portion of the renovation costs. This development creates a friction point between city leadership and county officials over the financial terms of the project. Coverage from KGW and KOIN.com emphasizes the internal conflict within the Multnomah County board, where leaders have stated that a proposed vote on the funding is occurring too soon.

The push for a reset suggests a lack of consensus on the current trajectory of the deal. Meanwhile, Axios reports that the debate over the Moda Center lease has now entered what it describes as a critical stretch. The tension is centered on the scale of public spending and whether the current draft terms provide enough protection for taxpayer interests before a final vote is conducted. This situation is unfolding against a backdrop of regional pressure to finalize the agreement. Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) reports that mayors from 24 Portland-area cities have collectively called on the city to secure the Moda Center deal.

This broad regional support contrasts with the hesitation seen at the county level. Furthermore, OregonLive.com has explored the potential leverage the city of Portland might hold, discussing what the city could specifically ask from the Blazers organization in exchange for providing taxpayer-funded rehabilitation of the arena. Looking forward, the primary focus remains on whether the Multnomah County board will agree to the requested pause or proceed with the vote on the renovation funding. The resolution of the lease debate will depend on the negotiations between the city and the Blazers regarding the $573 million investment mentioned in the draft terms. Observers will be watching to see if the city can reconcile the demands for a reset from county commissioners with the pressure from the 24 Portland-area mayors to finalize the deal.
