## Executive Summary
President Xi Jinping is positioning China as a central figure in the global artificial intelligence landscape through a new push for open-source technology.

## Intelligence Brief
At a conference in Shanghai, President Xi Jinping advocated for increased access to artificial intelligence technology. The promotion of open-source development serves as a primary pillar of this strategy.

Coverage from the Wall Street Journal, CNN, and Reuters highlights the contrast between these remarks and external criticism. While President Xi characterizes China as a responsible leader in the tech sector, reporting notes that former President Trump has recently accused China of misappropriating voter data.

Future developments will depend on the international response to China’s proposed open-source framework. The extent to which these policies influence global technological competition remains to be seen.
