## Executive Summary
Food safety experts urge proper produce washing amid climbing summer cases of the Cyclospora parasite.

## Intelligence Brief
Recent coverage across multiple publications highlights growing concerns regarding food safety and the proper methods for washing fruits and vegetables. Outlets including marthastewart.com, Vogue Adria, Real Simple, St. George News, MSN, AOL.com, Fruit Growers News, the University of Cincinnati, The News-Item, and The Guardian report extensively on how to clean produce effectively. Specific reporting focuses on removing dirt, pesticides, and other residues from items like grapes, alongside identifying eight fruits and vegetables that consumers are probably not washing correctly according to food safety experts.

Simultaneously, news sources emphasize a public health concern surrounding climbing summer cases of cyclosporiasis. Publications such as Fruit Growers News and AOL.com note that Penn State has urged safe produce handling amid an ongoing Cyclospora outbreak. Experts from the University of Cincinnati and specialists cited in regional news outlets identify thorough hand and produce washing as a key defense against the spread of the parasite, which The Guardian specifically describes in connection with explosive diarrhea. Context provided within the coverage points to seasonal surges in cyclosporiasis during the summer months, prompting various advisories on foods to avoid and methods of cleaning.

Articles examine whether specialized fruit wash sprays actually clean produce better than standard methods, with experts revealing what really works to eliminate contaminants. This coincides with broader discussions on detoxing vegetables under expert guidance and following specific protocols for safety. Coverage does not yet specify official government intervention or new regulatory measures beyond institutional warnings and expert advice. Readers must look to upcoming reports from health organizations and academic institutions to track the trajectory of the summer Cyclospora outbreak and any further developments regarding standardized produce-cleaning recommendations.
