> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-07-19 10:07 UTC · Category: Science

## Executive Summary
NASA's Psyche mission has released new data and a month-long time-lapse video capturing a Mars flyby.

## Intelligence Brief
According to extensive coverage from outlets including NASA Science, ZME Science, PetaPixel, BBC Sky at Night Magazine, Mirage News, The Verge, Engadget, The Debrief, Orbital Today, Newswise, and Phys.org, NASA has released new data and visual material from the Psyche spacecraft's recent journey. The materials specifically include a month-long time-lapse video of Mars, imagery of the Martian surface, views of the growing crescent of Mars, and flyby data captured as the spacecraft approached and moved past the Red Planet. JPL released these images and videos, highlighting surface details and the changing planetary views observed by the spacecraft. Media reporting heavily emphasizes the visual nature of the release, describing the published footage as a stunning tour and a mind-bending time-lapse. Outlets such as The Verge, Engadget, and PetaPixel focus heavily on the ability of the public to watch the newly shared perspective of Mars.

Alongside the visual data, coverage notes specific technical milestones achieved during the flyby operation. These include a DTU instrument clearing its first test for the mission and the successful testing of an LLNL-built gamma-ray sensor during the encounter. Context provided across the reporting highlights that the Psyche mission is utilizing this planetary encounter to test onboard instruments and gather scientific data while navigating space. The integration of technology tests, such as the gamma-ray sensor built by LLNL and the DTU instrument testing, runs concurrently with the collection of high-resolution visual data of planetary surfaces and growing planetary crescents. Coverage does not yet specify the full scope of downstream scientific findings expected from the gamma-ray sensor data, focusing instead on the immediate release of the flyby data and time-lapse imagery.

Future updates will depend on further analysis of the data returned by the spacecraft and additional announcements from NASA and JPL regarding the mission's ongoing trajectory. Observers and space enthusiasts are directed toward official NASA channels for ongoing updates as the mission progresses past the Martian flyby. Coverage does not currently detail the exact dates for subsequent instrument tests or the precise timeline for the spacecraft's next major operational milestone, leaving those details to future agency disclosures.
