## Executive Summary
Samsung unveils a wider Z Fold 8 and the new Z Fold 8 Ultra to preempt Apple's expected entry into the foldable smartphone market.

## Intelligence Brief
Samsung has concluded its July 2026 Galaxy Unpacked event, introducing a refreshed lineup of hardware including three new foldable smartphones and two Galaxy Watches. The primary smartphone releases consist of the Galaxy Z Flip 8, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, and a new high-end addition called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. According to the Samsung Global Newsroom, these devices are marketed as being perfected for every way of living. Additionally, PCMag reports on new Samsung smart glasses that feature updated designs and provide a battery life of 9 hours. The event's promotional rollout included a reveal of the wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 by BTS member J-Hope, as detailed in coverage from Mashable. Major technology outlets are focusing on the physical and strategic changes to the foldable line. The Verge describes the Z Fold 8 as having a wider form factor that feels just right, while WIRED examines the reasoning behind the new shape of the folding phone.

CNET highlights that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 has improved its cover screen, though the outlet also notes that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is attempting to justify the addition of the Ultra branding. Engadget summarizes the event's total output as three foldables and two watches. The collective coverage from these sources emphasizes a shift in design language and the expansion of the product tiers to include the Ultra model. Contextually, these launches are occurring as the industry anticipates Apple's debut in the foldable space. Both USA Today and Mashable state that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is designed to compete with a future iPhone Fold. This competitive pressure coincides with a pricing shift; CNBC and Reuters report that Samsung has increased prices for its new foldable smartphones. Reuters specifically attributes these price hikes to rising chip costs.

GSMArena.com has provided a detailed pricing breakdown for the Z Flip 8 and the various models within the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series to reflect these changes in cost. Looking forward, the market will monitor how consumers react to the higher price points and the wider dimensions of the Z Fold 8. Coverage indicates a focus on the viability of the Z Fold 8 Ultra's positioning in the market. Additionally, the industry is awaiting the official entry of Apple into the foldable category, which Samsung appears to be preempting with this current hardware cycle. Further attention will likely be directed toward the adoption of the new smart glasses and the performance of the two new Galaxy Watches introduced during the Unpacked event.
