## Executive Summary
Google Maps on Android Auto introduces a long-awaited live speedometer feature, bringing parity to drivers.

## Intelligence Brief
Recent coverage details a significant update for drivers utilizing Android Auto, as Google officially begins rolling out a live speedometer feature within Google Maps. According to reporting across multiple technology publications, this capability brings a functionality long requested by users to vehicle dashboard displays. Publications emphasize that this addition aligns Google Maps on Android Auto with features previously associated with Waze, another navigation platform owned by Google. Coverage highlights that the speedometer functionality is appearing through updates, including beta updates detailed by Moneycontrol.com, providing drivers with real-time speed tracking directly on their car screens.

The reporting across Android Central and Android Authority stresses that this is a feature drivers have desired for a long time, bridging a notable functional gap between smartphone navigation apps and integrated vehicle display systems. Context provided within the articles indicates that the absence of a built-in speedometer on Android Auto has been a frequent point of discussion among users who rely on dashboard displays for navigation. While Waze has historically offered speed tracking, Google Maps on the Android Auto interface lacked this specific tool until the current rollout phase. Coverage does not yet specify the exact timeline for a complete global rollout across all regions and device types, noting only that the distribution has begun via updates.

As the rollout continues, observers and users will be tracking how quickly the speedometer feature reaches all active Android Auto users worldwide. Coverage does not yet specify whether additional customization options for the speedometer display will follow in subsequent updates, leaving open the broader trajectory of future Google Maps enhancements for connected vehicles. Further reporting will depend on official statements or user observations as the update expands.
