The injuries were severe enough to necessitate care across multiple hospitals, a detail highlighted specifically by DawgNation. Multiple media outlets have focused on the official status of the player as provided by the coaching staff. AJC.com and 247Sports report that Kirby Smart used the lead-up to SEC Media Days to provide updates on Dowdell as well as another player, Bobo.
