## Executive Summary
CD Projekt Red is set to unveil 'Songs of the Past,' a major new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, during Gamescom 2026.

## Intelligence Brief
CD Projekt Red has confirmed the upcoming debut of a new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt titled Songs of the Past. This major piece of downloadable content is scheduled to make its first official appearance during the Opening Night Live stream at Gamescom 2026. According to reports from GameGPU, the presentation will specifically include gameplay footage of the expansion, which is slated for a reveal date of August 25. The timing of this announcement places the first look at the new content within the next month, as noted by PC Gamer. Coverage of the event is widespread across gaming and technology media.

Outlets including Windows Central, OpenCritic, and My Nintendo News have highlighted that the expansion will debut during the Gamescom opening night. Furthermore, Game Informer has specified that the first footage of Songs of the Past will be revealed specifically during the event's live stream. TechPowerUp, VICE, and Push Square have also confirmed the developer's plans to use the Gamescom platform for this unveiling, while IGN and CD Projekt Red themselves have linked the news back to the core title, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Context for the expansion is provided by TweakTown, which reports that this DLC serves as a prelude to The Witcher 4. This positioning suggests that the content within Songs of the Past may provide narrative or mechanical bridges leading into the next primary installment of the franchise.

The focus on a big new expansion for a title as established as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt indicates a strategic effort by CD Projekt Red to expand the existing lore and story before transitioning to the next major project in the series. Looking forward, the primary milestone for the community is August 25, when the aforementioned gameplay footage is expected to be presented. While the current coverage confirms the debut and the title of the DLC, it does not yet provide specific plot details or release dates beyond the Gamescom presentation window. Observers will be watching the Opening Night Live stream for the first concrete visuals and further information regarding how this prelude connects to the future of the franchise and the development of The Witcher 4.
