> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-07-22 20:07 UTC · Category: Entertainment

## Executive Summary
Cinephiles travel thousands of miles and face skyrocketing ticket prices as demand surges for 'The Odyssey' in IMAX 70mm.

## Intelligence Brief
Current reporting highlights widespread enthusiasm and logistical challenges surrounding screenings of 'The Odyssey', particularly in premium formats like IMAX 70mm and 4DX. The film's release has sparked intense demand, leaving many moviegoers to navigate severe ticket scarcity, accidental format bookings, and technical screening problems. Coverage from Axios and 13wham.com notes that only a very limited number of United States theaters—specifically twenty-five locations—are equipped to display the film in IMAX 70mm. This extreme scarcity has driven secondary market prices in New York City to over one thousand dollars, as reported by FOX 5 New York.

Meanwhile, publications like The Seattle Times document ongoing screening problems at specific venues such as SIFF Cinema Downtown, while AZ Family and The Times highlight fans driving hours, staying up late, or traveling up to one thousand miles for rare viewings. The public discourse also addresses alternative formats and viewer experiences. Variety and Yahoo feature coverage of the 4DX version, detailing accounts of audiences getting shaken, soaked, and seasick, with some viewers accidentally booking tickets for this format as documented by Yahoo. Letters to the editor published in the Los Angeles Times and Yahoo emphasize that the film's financial success relies heavily on these expensive premium formats, prompting guide-style publications from The Washington Post and Axios to help audiences navigate their viewing options in cities like Washington, D.C. and Richmond.

As ticket scarcity persists, regional outlets such as News On 6 report on Tulsa's desire for the film to return, while Gothamist captures the plea of New York City movie buffs trying to figure out how to secure admission. The current coverage does not yet specify whether distributors will authorize additional IMAX 70mm showtimes or release more tickets to meet the overwhelming national demand. Observers will need to monitor theater announcements and box office updates to see if screening capacities expand in response to the intense fan mobilization.
