## Executive Summary
Max Fried has returned to the New York Yankees rotation, delivering a dominant scoreless performance in his first outing back from the injured list.

## Intelligence Brief
The New York Yankees activated pitcher Max Fried from the injured list ahead of schedule to participate in a doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates. In his first start back from injury, Fried pitched five scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and recording seven strikeouts. This performance contributed to a 2-0 victory for the Yankees, resulting in a split of the doubleheader between the two teams. The activation was described by some reports as a surprise decision made by the organization following a rainout. Coverage from major outlets including CBS Sports, Yahoo Sports, and CBS News emphasizes Fried's efficiency in his return, noting that he appeared to have hardly missed a step.

MLB.com and Pinstripe Alley highlighted the dominance of his five-inning stint. Additionally, the New York Post and Yahoo Sports focused on the strategic significance of pairing Fried with Gerrit Cole, noting that this specific combination of pitchers had been worth the wait for the team's rotation depth. This development is significant because it marks the first time that Gerrit Cole and Max Fried have been together in the Yankees' rotation. The synergy of this "1-2 punch" is a primary focal point for analysts. Contextual details from 10TV mention that the presence of Cole and Fried in the rotation adds to the team's strength, referencing Aaron Judge's 99.

The move follows a period of recovery where Fried was on the injured list, and the early activation underscores the team's need for high-level pitching during this stretch of the season. Looking ahead, the Yankees continue to monitor other injury notes, with SNY reporting positive news regarding Giancarlo Stanton and noting that Clarke Schmidt has been throwing another live batting practice session. While Fried has successfully returned to the active roster, MLB.com indicated at one point that the process involved rehab starts. Observers will now watch how the rotation functions with the Cole and Fried pairing established as the team moves forward from the Pittsburgh series.
