Goaltender Jet Greaves and the Columbus Blue Jackets reached a three-year contract extension worth $15 million.

## Intelligence Brief
Recent sports coverage details how the Columbus Blue Jackets successfully avoided an arbitration hearing by signing goaltender Jet Greaves to a new three-year contract extension. According to reporting from outlets including The New York Times, ESPN, Sportsnet.ca, TSN, Yahoo Sports, NHL.com, The Columbus Dispatch, Last Word On Sports, The Lufkin Daily News, and Montreal Hockey Fanatics, the agreement carries a total value of $15 million, which breaks down to an average annual value of $5 million. Coverage from TSN and The New York Times emphasizes the tense financial negotiations that preceded the signing, revealing that the team and the player were separated by $4.7 million in their respective salary arbitration briefs as a hearing loomed. The New York Times highlighted comments indicating that both sides were initially very far apart on the monetary figure before ultimately bridging the gap.

Montreal Hockey Fanatics framed the signing as a notable transaction, drawing comparisons to other front-office moves. Meanwhile, outlets like NHL.com, ESPN, and Sportsnet.ca focused on the structural details of the three-year commitment securing the goaltender in Columbus. The context surrounding this trending topic centers on the National Hockey League salary arbitration process, which frequently brings teams and restricted free agents to the brink of formal hearings when financial valuations diverge. Arbitration briefs filed ahead of the scheduled proceedings laid bare the wide monetary divide between the Blue Jackets and Greaves.

By resolving the dispute with a multi-year extension instead of proceeding to a ruling by an independent arbiter, the franchise secured cost certainty for the goaltender position over the next three seasons, averting the potential animosity often associated with contentious arbitration hearings. As the ink dries on the $15 million extension, future coverage will likely track how Greaves integrates into the team's ongoing roster plans and whether he assumes a heavier workload in the crease under his new three-year commitment. Current reporting does not yet specify the exact goaltending rotation strategy the coaching staff will employ following the resolution of the contract dispute, nor does it detail any subsequent roster maneuvers the front office might pursue to accommodate the $5 million annual cap hit within their broader financial structure.
