## Executive Summary
Fantasy football analysts are identifying high-value running back targets and ECR-based picks as the 2026 NFL training camps begin.

## Intelligence Brief
The fantasy football community is currently focusing on identifying value picks and ranking running backs as the 2026 NFL season approaches. According to reporting from FantasyPros, analysts are utilizing Expected Consistency Ratings (ECR) to determine which players provide the most value relative to their draft position. This movement comes as NFL training camps are beginning, a period that often triggers shifts in player projections. NFL.com has specifically identified a list of the top seven running back values to target for the 2026 fantasy football season, while CBS Sports has provided a comprehensive ranking of the top 10 running back duos across the league to help managers navigate committee backfields. Coverage from multiple sports outlets emphasizes the strategic importance of the running back position during this window.

Yahoo Sports is focusing on depth and contingency planning, with Justin Boone providing updated rankings for backup running backs. This level of detail suggests a high priority on securing 'handcuff' players or sleepers who could see an increase in touches. Meanwhile, Matthew Berry's Fantasy Life has highlighted Cam Skattebo as a primary example of a high-risk, high-reward running back for 2026. The emphasis across these outlets is on balancing safe floor players with volatile assets that could potentially offer league-winning returns if they outperform their current ECR. The current focus on these rankings matters because the transition into training camp often reveals how coaching staffs intend to distribute carries, particularly in the duos ranked by CBS Sports.

For fantasy managers, the discrepancy between a player's actual production potential and their ECR creates the 'value' that NFL.com and FantasyPros are attempting to quantify. Understanding which backup running backs are ascending in Justin Boone's rankings is critical for those drafting in leagues with deep benches or those looking for late-round targets who could capitalize on injuries to starters. Moving forward, analysts and managers will likely watch for training camp reports to see if the high-risk projections for players like Cam Skattebo materialize into tangible roles. The focus will remain on the evolution of the top 10 running back duos and whether specific backups move up in the rankings provided by Yahoo Sports. Because these value picks are based on current ECR, any significant change in depth chart status during camp will likely lead to updated lists of the top seven RB values from NFL.com and revised ECR data from FantasyPros as the official season start date draws closer.
