> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-07-24 13:07 UTC · Category: Technology

## Executive Summary
PlayStation Network experienced a worldwide outage on July 24, 2026, linked to Amazon Web Services issues, impacting thousands of gamers.

## Intelligence Brief
According to reporting from Insider Gaming and the London Evening Standard, the disruption affected users globally, with thousands of UK-based players specifically reporting problems. Push Square noted that the outage lasted for more than four hours, during which Sony stated they were working to resolve the issues. The service was described as sputtering while slowly recovering from the initial crash. Coverage from Push Square specifically identifies an outage at Amazon Web Services as the cause of the PSN downtime.

Other outlets, including PlayStation LifeStyle and VICE, focused on the immediate impact of the connectivity issues, while Video Games Chronicle highlighted the timing of the crash. According to Video Games Chronicle, the network failure occurred only hours after the open beta for Marvel Tokon had gone live, suggesting a significant overlap between the high-traffic event and the service failure. IGN provides further context, framing the event as part of a difficult month for Sony. The report links the current network instability to a separate, recent controversy regarding the company's decisions concerning disc media.

Because the network was down, fans were left unable to play digital games, which IGN suggests exacerbated existing tensions between the company and its user base following the aforementioned disc controversy. Future developments will depend on the full restoration of services and the stability of the Amazon Web Services infrastructure. Based on the reports from Push Square and other gaming news sites, the primary focus remains on whether the recovery process concludes without further intermittent connectivity. Coverage does not yet specify if Sony or Amazon will issue formal post-mortem reports regarding the specific nature of the AWS failure that triggered the global PSN shutdown.
