## Executive Summary
Amazon's 'The Rings of Power' expands its Middle-earth mythology in Season 3 with the introduction of 'proto-Ringwraiths' and the forging of the One Ring.

## Intelligence Brief
Central to the new season's plot is the development of new characters, specifically the 'proto-Ringwraiths' known as the Nazgnagôl, who precede the more familiar Nazgûl. According to reports, the narrative will progress to a critical point in the lore as Sauron forges the One Ring within the region of Mordor. The stakes for the upcoming episodes are described as high, with assertions that no-one is safe as the story unfolds. Major entertainment outlets have focused on different aspects of the production. Entertainment Weekly and Gizmodo have highlighted the release of the first teaser trailer and the introduction of new characters.

Empire Online provided an exclusive look at the Nazgnagôl, while also detailing the pivotal moment of the One Ring's creation. Additionally, Deadline reported on the production's presence at Comic-Con, where it was revealed that actor Simon Pegg has been cast in the series. The Verge also noted the return of streaming content related to the show, reflecting the broader digital rollout of the season's promotional materials. To understand the significance of these developments, readers must recognize the chronological placement of the series within the Legendarium. The introduction of the Nazgnagôl serves as a precursor to the Nazgûl, providing a look at the evolution of the Ringwraiths.

The forging of the One Ring in Mordor is a foundational event in the history of Middle-earth, acting as the catalyst for the conflicts seen in the broader Lord of the Rings narrative. The casting of a known actor like Simon Pegg further signals the expanding scale of the ensemble cast as the series moves deeper into the Second Age. Looking forward, the focus remains on the upcoming release of the full season and the integration of the new cast members. Viewers will be watching for the specific implementation of the 'proto-Ringwraiths' and how the forging of the One Ring alters the geopolitical landscape of Mordor. Following the teaser trailer and the Comic-Con updates provided by Deadline and other sources, the production is expected to reveal further details regarding the roles of new characters and the timeline of the season's release on streaming platforms.
