## Executive Summary
Raging wildfires across France and Spain have triggered mass evacuations and prompted emergency declarations as authorities struggle to contain the blazes.

## Intelligence Brief
Wildfires are currently burning across regions in France and Spain, leading to the evacuation of tens of thousands of residents. Spain has officially declared a national emergency in response to the situation near Madrid and in Avila. In southwestern France, efforts to control the fires are ongoing, and the country is actively seeking assistance from the European Union.

Coverage from outlets including France 24, Reuters, AP News, NBC News, and Bloomberg highlights the scale of the evacuations and the declaration of emergency status. Reports also note that three firefighters have died while responding to incidents across Europe. Additional coverage from Al Jazeera and DW.com notes that the fires are occurring alongside broader erratic weather patterns, including hail in the Balkans.

Immediate efforts remain focused on containing the fires to prevent them from merging, particularly near Madrid. Future developments will depend on the effectiveness of ongoing containment operations and the response from international partners. Coverage does not yet specify the total duration of the state of emergency or the full extent of property damage.
