## Executive Summary
Pop star Katy Perry has publicly condemned the White House for using her hit song 'Firework' in a video depicting military strikes in Iran.

## Intelligence Brief
Singer Katy Perry has expressed deep disapproval regarding the decision by the White House to feature her song 'Firework' in a promotional or informational video focused on military strikes against Iran. According to reports from The Washington Post and The Hollywood Reporter, the artist is deeply appalled that her intellectual property was utilized in this specific context. Perry has explicitly stated, 'I did not approve this,' making it clear that there was no prior agreement or authorization from her side for the music to be used in a video highlighting war operations. The coverage of this dispute is widespread across several major media outlets, including USA Today and WUSA9. These reports emphasize the artist's strong reaction to the White House's actions, with The Hollywood Reporter noting that Perry has actively slammed the administration for the choice.

While USA Today describes the content as a military ad, other outlets like 10TV and The Washington Post frame it as a video regarding Iran war strikes. The consistency across these reports highlights the central conflict: the unauthorized use of a popular music track to soundtrack military activity. This incident matters because it centers on the tension between government communication strategies and the rights of artists to control how their work is associated with political or military messaging. The use of 'Firework,' a song generally associated with empowerment and positivity, in a video depicting strikes in Iran has created a stark contrast that Perry finds unacceptable. The lack of approval mentioned by Perry suggests a failure in the licensing or vetting process conducted by the White House before the video was released to the public.

Future developments will likely center on whether the White House issues a formal response or removes the song from the video following the backlash. Coverage does not yet specify if there will be legal action regarding the copyright or if the administration will offer an apology to the singer. Observers will be watching to see if other artists express similar concerns regarding the use of their music in government-produced military content, as the situation continues to unfold across news platforms like 10TV and USA Today.
