## Executive Summary
Marvel Studios has announced David Jonsson will star as T’Challa’s son in ‘Black Panther 3,’ scheduled for a December 2028 release.

## Intelligence Brief
Marvel Studios and director Ryan Coogler have officially announced the production of a third 'Black Panther' film. According to reports from Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, actor David Jonsson has been cast in the leading role, playing the son of T’Challa. This new character is referred to in Deadline coverage as T'Challa II. The announcement coincided with San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where the casting news was shared. IGN reports that Marvel has confirmed a specific release date for the sequel, which is currently set for December 2028. Extensive coverage from major entertainment outlets emphasizes the shift in leadership within the franchise.

Entertainment Weekly and Yahoo provide exclusive details regarding Letitia Wright's reaction to the news, specifically her response to the "bombshell" of passing the mantle to David Jonsson's character. Additionally, WCAX notes that the Comic-Con revelations extended beyond the Black Panther franchise, reporting that Ryan Gosling is also joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the role of Ghost Rider. These updates were disseminated across a wide range of platforms, including comicsbeat.com and Marvel.com. The context for this development centers on the evolution of the Black Panther legacy and the expansion of the MCU's casting roster. By introducing T’Challa’s son, the narrative moves forward into a new generation of leadership in Wakanda. The announcement at SDCC '26 highlights a strategic effort to revitalize the series with new lead actors while maintaining the directorial vision of Ryan Coogler.

This marks a significant transition for the franchise, as the mantle of the Black Panther is formally transferred to a descendant of the original protagonist. Looking ahead, stakeholders and audiences will monitor the production progress leading up to the December 2028 premiere. Coverage from The Hollywood Reporter and Variety indicates that the focus will remain on David Jonsson's portrayal of the young prince and the integration of new characters like Ryan Gosling's Ghost Rider into the broader Marvel landscape. Further details regarding the plot or additional cast members have not yet been specified in the current reports, but the confirmed release window provides a definitive timeline for the project's completion.
