## Executive Summary
The Texas Rangers place third baseman Josh Jung on the injured list with a calf strain and recall Josh Smith.

## Intelligence Brief
Recent sports reporting details a roster move by the Texas Rangers regarding third baseman Josh Jung and utility player Josh Smith. According to coverage from outlets including Yahoo Sports, the Dallas News, MLB.com, ESPN, and MLB Trade Rumors, Jung has been placed on the injured list. The official diagnosis cited across the reports is a calf strain. In a corresponding roster transaction, the franchise recalled Josh Smith from Triple-A to fill the active roster vacancy left by Jung's departure. Specific emphasis in the media coverage focuses on the timing of this roster disruption.

Outlets note that the injury and subsequent injured list placement occur right before the Major League Baseball trade deadline. Reports highlight that this situation leaves the Texas organization in a difficult or tricky spot as the front office evaluates its options and personnel needs during a critical period of the season. Context provided by the coverage connects this transaction to the broader mechanics of the baseball calendar and team management. Roster management becomes particularly sensitive near the trade deadline, where team needs can shift rapidly based on health. The loss of a starting infielder like Jung introduces immediate strategic questions for the franchise leadership regarding depth and potential trade market engagement.

Future developments will depend on how the franchise navigates the period leading up to the trade deadline. Coverage does not yet specify a concrete timeline for Jung's recovery or return to the active lineup. Observers will monitor whether the front office elects to make external roster additions to cover the third base position or relies on internal options like the newly recalled Smith while Jung recovers from the calf strain.
