## Executive Summary
Iran rejects immediate negotiations with the United States as the Strait of Hormuz remains closed amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to halt war.

## Intelligence Brief
Current reporting indicates a diplomatic impasse as Iran rules out the resumption of talks with the United States. An Iranian spokesperson explicitly stated that Iran has not asked for the resumption of discussions with the U.S. government. This stance is further reinforced by reporting from Al Jazeera, which confirms that there are currently no negotiations taking place between Iran and the United States. Coverage from Reuters and Al Jazeera emphasizes the official Iranian position of non-engagement with the U.S. at this time. While the Iranian government maintains this hardline stance, ABC7 Los Angeles reports a different perspective from regional officials.

Specifically, two regional officials cited by ABC7 Los Angeles suggest that mediators are seeing progress in diplomatic efforts aimed at halting the Iran war. This creates a contrast between the public declarations of the Iranian state and the behind-the-scenes assessments of mediators and regional officials regarding the potential for a ceasefire or conflict resolution. To understand the current stakes, the situation centers on the duality of official state rhetoric and clandestine mediation. The refusal of the Iranian spokesperson to request talks with the U.S. highlights the depth of the diplomatic rift, even as regional officials maintain that movement is being made toward a diplomatic solution. The reported progress mentioned by ABC7 Los Angeles suggests that third-party mediators are attempting to bridge the gap between the warring entities despite the lack of direct bilateral communication.

The contrast between the spokesperson's statements and the mediators' optimism suggests a volatile diplomatic environment. Future developments depend on whether the progress noted by the two regional officials can overcome the current refusal by Iran to engage in talks with the United States. Coverage does not yet specify the identities of the mediators or the specific terms of the progress being made to halt the war.
