## Executive Summary
The New York Yankees have signed former Silver Slugger catcher Mitch Garver to a minor league deal to address depth issues during a difficult season.

## Intelligence Brief
The New York Yankees have reached an agreement to sign Mitch Garver to a minor league contract. Garver, a former Silver Slugger award winner, joins the organization after being released by the Seattle Mariners. This roster move comes as the Yankees seek to bolster their catching depth following what the New York Post describes as a failure to acquire catchers during the trade deadline. The team is currently navigating a season characterized by Yanks Go Yard as being terrible, making the addition of a veteran presence behind the plate a priority for the front office. Coverage of this transaction is widespread across major sports outlets. MLB.com and MLB Trade Rumors both confirmed the signing of Garver to a minor league deal, citing sources for the information.

Yahoo Sports highlighted Garver's pedigree as a former Silver Slugger, noting that the acquisition occurred shortly after a roster cut. The New York Post focused on the timing of the signing, linking the decision to the Yankees' lack of success in securing catching help during the trade deadline period. These reports collectively frame the move as a necessary step to stabilize a struggling position. In separate but concurrent league activity, the San Diego Padres have focused on strengthening their own roster for a postseason push. According to The New York Times, the Padres signed outfielder Austin Hays to a major-league deal. This move was corroborated by MLB Trade Rumors and Yahoo Sports, the latter of which noted that Hays is another veteran outfielder added to the Padres' 40-man roster.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Hays has already made an impact by hitting a home run, transitioning from one contender to another in the process. Additionally, the Union-Tribune noted that pitcher Joe Musgrove is continuing his recovery with another rehab start. Looking forward, observers will monitor whether Mitch Garver can successfully transition from his minor league deal to the Yankees' active roster to alleviate their catching shortage. The team must weigh the potential impact of the recently-released Mariners catcher against their current seasonal struggles. Simultaneously, the San Diego Padres will continue to integrate Austin Hays into their lineup as they maintain their status as a contender.
