# Dive Beneath the Surface in Grounded 2’s Biggest Update Yet: Into the Abyss

> **Open Intelligence Dossier** · First detected: 2026-08-11 21:07 UTC · Category: Technology

## Executive Summary
Grounded 2 expands to the PS5 and introduces its largest update to date, 'Into the Abyss,' marking a major multi-platform push for the title.

## Intelligence Brief
This release coincides with the rollout of a significant content expansion titled Into the Abyss, which Xbox Wire describes as the biggest update the game has seen to date. The expansion encourages players to dive beneath the surface to explore new areas. This rollout is part of a larger strategy as the game prepares for what Pure Xbox describes as a major week across multiple gaming platforms, occurring one year after the initial cycle of the game's development and release timeline. Coverage of the launch is split across several gaming and tech outlets. PlayStation LifeStyle highlights the transition of the Xbox-developed title to the PS5 hardware.

AOL.com has provided an early access review of the PlayStation 5 version, suggesting that the sequel maintains the charm of the original experience. However, the transition has not been without technical changes; Tech Times reports that the game has scrapped the carried-over underwater combat system specifically on the day of its PlayStation 5 debut, indicating a divergence in how combat functions on this platform compared to previous versions. To understand the current momentum, readers should note that Grounded 2 is an action-adventure title originally associated with Xbox that is now expanding its reach to a wider audience. The timing of the Into the Abyss update suggests a push to revitalize the player base by adding substantial depth to the gameplay mechanics and environment. The move to the PlayStation Store represents a significant shift in availability for the title, moving it beyond the ecosystem where it was first established and into the competitive console market of the PS5.

Looking forward, the focus remains on the performance of the PS5 version and the reception of the Into the Abyss expansion. Observers will be monitoring whether the removal of the underwater combat system, as noted by Tech Times, affects the overall player experience on the PlayStation Store. With Pure Xbox indicating that the game is in the midst of a major week across multiple platforms, further updates or platform-specific adjustments may follow as the developers track the impact of the game's largest update yet.
