## Executive Summary
Latvia has discovered a secret underground tunnel used for illegal migration from Belarus, triggering a major security operation to fortify its frontier.

## Intelligence Brief
Latvian authorities have discovered a secret migrant tunnel located at the frontier with Belarus. This discovery has prompted the Latvian government to take decisive action against people smugglers and irregular migration flows. In response to the breach and the broader security situation, Latvia has officially launched Operation Werewolf, a targeted initiative designed to combat illegal migration. This security operation comes as the nation seeks to secure its borders against unauthorized entries from neighboring territories. Coverage of the incident is widespread across multiple international news outlets.

Reuters reports that the discovery of the tunnel has led to a vow from Latvian authorities to combat the networks of people smugglers facilitating these crossings. Politico.eu specifically highlights the secret nature of the tunnel at the Belarus frontier. Meanwhile, Euronews.com focuses on the fact that Latvia is stepping up its overall border security measures in direct response to a surge in irregular migration originating from Belarus. Contextual reporting from Bloomberg.com indicates that Latvia intends to boost its border infrastructure to curb migration stemming from both Belarus and Russia. This move reflects a broader strategic effort to prevent unauthorized crossings into the European Union's external borders.

The discovery of the tunnel serves as a concrete example of the methods being used to bypass existing border controls, justifying the shift toward more aggressive security postures and the implementation of Operation Werewolf to address these vulnerabilities. Future developments will center on the execution of Operation Werewolf and the ongoing efforts to fortify the border. Based on the reporting from Bloomberg.com and Euronews.com, the focus remains on the physical boosting of border defenses to stop irregular migration. Authorities will continue to monitor the Belarus frontier for further subterranean or irregular entry points while pursuing the people smugglers mentioned in the Reuters report. Coverage does not yet specify the exact length of the tunnel or the number of individuals who utilized the passage.
