The Minnesota Vikings have officially designated Kyler Murray as the starting quarterback for the 2026 season. This decision concludes a period of competition between Murray and J.J. The move establishes a clear hierarchy within the Vikings' offensive structure heading into the new year. Multiple major news outlets have reported on this development. ESPN provided coverage citing sources to confirm the designation of Kyler Murray as the starter. CBS News also reported the news, specifically noting that ESPN had first detailed the decision.

Meanwhile, USA Today focused on the implications of this naming, questioning specifically what the decision means for the future and role of J.J. McCarthy within the organization. While Murray is the confirmed starter, the coverage from USA Today indicates that McCarthy's role remains a point of significant inquiry.
