## Intelligence Brief
DarkSky International has officially announced the winners of the 2026 Capture the Dark photography contest. This global competition focused on capturing the aesthetic and natural beauty of the world's darkest skies. According to the organization, a total of 31 award-winning photographs were selected to celebrate nighttime landscapes and the visibility of the stars. Coverage of the event has been widespread across specialized photography and news platforms.

PetaPixel highlighted the specific number of winning photos, emphasizing that these 31 images serve as a celebration of the beauty found in the darkest regions of the globe. Additional reporting from EIN News and PTTL.gr focused on the global nature of the photography contest, while DarkSky International published the winning photographs directly through its own official channels to showcase the results of the 2026 competition cycle. This contest matters because it draws attention to the existence and preservation of dark sky locations. By soliciting images that specifically highlight the world's darkest skies, DarkSky International uses the medium of nighttime photography to bring visibility to environments where light pollution is minimal.

The competition encourages photographers to seek out and document these specific areas, providing a visual record of the celestial views that remain accessible in certain parts of the world. Future developments regarding this trend will likely involve the exhibition or distribution of the winning imagery. Based on the announcements from DarkSky International and the reporting by PetaPixel, the focus remains on the 31 selected photographs. Observers can look for further details on the specific photographers recognized in the 2026 contest or subsequent galleries that showcase these nighttime images as part of the organization's ongoing effort to highlight the beauty of the night sky.
