## Executive Summary
Russia has canceled a major combat-drone festival on Red Square due to fears of Ukrainian drone strikes, marking a rare disruption of the event.

## Intelligence Brief
The Russian government has canceled a significant military festival scheduled to take place on Red Square in Moscow. Specifically, the event identified as the Dronnitsa-2026 Drone Operators’ Congress, also referred to as a combat-drone jamboree, will not proceed as planned. According to reports from Meduza, this is only the second time in the history of the event that it has been canceled. The decision comes amid an environment of ongoing drone attacks, leading to the postponement of this gathering of drone operators and military personnel in the heart of the capital. Coverage from a variety of international and regional outlets emphasizes the perceived vulnerability of the Russian state. Politico.eu and The Moscow Times report that the cancellation is a direct result of fears regarding a potential Ukrainian attack.

Outlets such as The Daily Beast and the Daily Express have framed the move as a humiliation for Vladimir Putin, suggesting that these types of cancellations are spiraling. The reports from Meduza and the Ukrainian-affiliated UNITED24 Media further underscore that the decision was driven by the specific worry that Ukraine would target the event while it was being held on Red Square. To understand the significance of this event, it is necessary to note that the Dronnitsa-2026 forum was intended to be a high-profile display of Russian combat drone capabilities. The fact that the event is being held on Red Square adds a layer of symbolic importance to the gathering. As noted by Militarynii, the threat of a Ukrainian strike was the primary catalyst for the cancellation. This reflects a broader context of security concerns within Moscow, where the risk of aerial incursions has forced the government to reconsider the safety of large-scale military demonstrations in public spaces.

Looking forward, observers are monitoring whether other major Moscow events will face similar fates. While the current coverage focuses on the Dronnitsa-2026 Drone Operators’ Congress, the reporting from The Daily Beast suggests a pattern of cancellations. It remains to be seen if the Russian government will reschedule the combat-drone forum or if the continued threat of Ukrainian strikes will prevent the event from occurring entirely. For now, the status of the festival remains canceled or postponed based on the reports from The Moscow Times and other news agencies.
