## Executive Summary
Ohio State and Oregon have emerged as the top teams in the 2026 AP preseason college football poll, signaling a dominant start for the Big Ten.

## Intelligence Brief
The Associated Press has released its Top 25 preseason poll for the 2026 college football season, positioning Ohio State and Oregon at the top of the rankings. According to reporting from ESPN, these two programs headline the list as the season approaches. The New York Times further specifies that Ohio State has successfully won the battle for the No. 1 ranking. This initial placement sets the competitive landscape for the upcoming year, establishing the benchmark for the rest of the field in a highly anticipated collegiate cycle. Coverage of these rankings is widespread across major sports and news outlets.

ESPN and NBC Sports have provided comprehensive takeaways, including the full rankings and lists of teams to watch. The Mercury News highlights a broader trend within the poll, noting that the Big Ten and the SEC are dominating the Top 25. Meanwhile, Fox News is focusing its analysis on the subjective nature of the list, questioning which teams are currently overrated, underrated, or have been completely snubbed by the voters in the preseason evaluation. Contextual analysis from the New York Times suggests that the current rankings may not fully reflect the strength of every program, specifically arguing that Texas and LSU should be ranked higher than they currently are. This internal debate over valuation is mirrored by Sports Illustrated, which explores the psychological and competitive pressure associated with the top spot, suggesting that the AP Preseason No. 1 ranking can often feel more like a curse than an advantage for the team holding it.

Moving forward, the focus shifts to how these teams perform relative to their preseason expectations. ESPN is tracking what comes next for each of the Top 25 teams as they enter active competition. Observers will be monitoring whether the dominant positions held by the Big Ten and SEC are maintained or if the teams labeled as underrated or snubbed by Fox News and The New York Times can climb the rankings through on-field success.
