## Intelligence Brief
Health officials have identified a California egg producer as the source of a salmonella outbreak currently impacting San Diego County. According to reports from the San Diego Union-Tribune and KPBS, the outbreak has grown to a total of 21 confirmed cases. The severity of the infections has led to seven individuals being hospitalized. The source of the illness has been specifically tied to raw eggs coming from a poultry farm located in the community of Ramona, as reported by fox5sandiego.com and the San Diego County News Center. Coverage of the event is concentrated among regional San Diego outlets and national news sources.

The San Diego Union-Tribune, KPBS, fox5sandiego.com, and the San Diego County News Center are all providing detailed updates on the local scale of the outbreak. Additionally, the New York Post has reported on the identification of the egg producer as the source, highlighting that health officials were responsible for making this connection between the poultry farm and the rise in salmonella cases. The context of the outbreak centers on the risks associated with the consumption of raw eggs from the identified Ramona source. The increase in cases to 21 and the subsequent seven hospitalizations indicate a growing public health concern within the region. By identifying the specific poultry farm, health officials are attempting to isolate the source of the salmonella to prevent further infections and manage the current health crisis affecting residents of the area.

Future developments will depend on the actions taken by health officials regarding the Ramona poultry farm. While the current reports confirm the number of cases and the source of the outbreak, coverage does not yet specify if a formal recall has been initiated or if the farm has ceased operations. Observers will be watching for updated case counts from the San Diego Union-Tribune and KPBS, as well as further directives from county health officials to mitigate the spread of the bacteria.
