Venus Williams returns to the US Open at age 46 after receiving a singles wildcard alongside fellow veterans and rising stars.

## Intelligence Brief
The US Open has announced its wildcard selections for the 2026 tournament, granting singles entry to several high-profile athletes. According to reporting from the BBC and the official US Open website, 46-year-old Venus Williams has been awarded a singles wildcard. She joins Sloane Stephens and Stan Wawrinka among those receiving these special invitations to compete in the upcoming event. Additionally, tennisnow.com reports that the men's wildcard list includes Gaël Monfils and Zheng, who is identified as an NCAA Champion. Media coverage of these selections is focused heavily on the status of the Williams sisters.

While usopen.org confirms the entry of Venus Williams, ESPN and The New York Times emphasize that Serena Williams remains noncommittal regarding her own participation. ESPN reports that the tournament has awarded seven of its eight available wild cards, leaving a remaining slot as the public awaits word on Serena's potential return. The New York Times notes that fans are still waiting for Serena's first appearance in four years, highlighting the suspense surrounding her decision. This development is significant due to the age and legacy of the participants. The BBC specifically notes Venus Williams' age of 46, underscoring her longevity in the professional singles circuit.

The inclusion of established veterans like Stan Wawrinka and Gaël Monfils alongside a current NCAA Champion like Zheng illustrates the tournament's blend of legacy players and emerging collegiate talent. The stakes are elevated by the high public interest in the Williams family's presence at the New York tournament. Observers are now focused on the final remaining wildcard slot. Coverage from ESPN and The New York Times indicates that the primary point of uncertainty is whether Serena Williams will accept an invitation to end her four-year absence from the event. While most of the wildcards have been distributed, the tournament's remaining vacancy serves as the central plot point for sports analysts and fans monitoring the official entry lists as the start of the 2026 US Open approaches.
