## Executive Summary
The Los Angeles Dodgers are placing closer Edwin Díaz back on the injured list following a struggle with neck inflammation and a high ERA.

## Intelligence Brief
The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed their closer, Edwin Díaz, back on the injured list. According to reports from MLB.com and Yahoo Sports, the move is a result of neck inflammation. This designation comes during a period of significant struggle for the pitcher, who is a former member of the New York Mets. The team is now navigating the loss of their primary closer as they manage the health of their pitching staff during the 2026 season. Coverage of the move has been widespread across major sports and news outlets.

ESPN and the Los Angeles Times both confirmed that Díaz is returning to the IL, while MLB.com specifically identified neck inflammation as the cause. The New York Times has highlighted the severe performance decline accompanying these health issues, noting that Díaz has been posting a 10.66 ERA. Furthermore, NJ.com characterized the pitcher's current campaign as a horrendous season, emphasizing the gap between his previous reputation and his current output. To understand the gravity of this move, it is necessary to look at the statistical collapse described in the reporting. The New York Times specifies that the Dodgers have been attempting to fix the issues surrounding Díaz, whose 10.66 ERA represents a major liability in the closer role.

As a former Mets closer, Díaz arrived with high expectations, but the combination of physical ailments and poor performance has forced the organization to reconsider his immediate availability on the active roster. Looking ahead, the focus remains on the timeline for a potential return and the team's bullpen adjustments. Yahoo Sports reports that manager Dave Roberts has been asked to reveal if Edwin Díaz will return this season. Simultaneously, ESPN notes that the team is watching Shohei Ohtani throw in the bullpen, suggesting a shift in focus toward other arms. The Dodgers must now determine if the neck injury is a temporary setback or a season-ending complication for their closer.
